iPod Transfer Error

Sun., May. 01, 2005 18:50:32
You guys really lucked out with me writing two blogs in one day...

I should start off letting everyone know that I got a 20 GB iPod for my birthday back in February, but I won't. So I got this iPod, tranferred about 17 GB of music onto it, a couple days passed. I downloaded some more music, transferred the new music onto my iPod, a couple more days passed. Then I tried to update it again. Wait, what's this chkdsk thing? Oh crap... My iPod is broken (it wouldn't transfer music anymore). The answer seemed so simple: call iPod support. I did this, and was informed of the real method to transfer music onto your iPod. Apparently the public directions stating that you connect your iPod and just hit update are wrong. Here's the real method:

  • Uninstall iTunes
  • Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services, Stop Ipod Service
  • Delete C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\
  • Restart computer
  • Install iTunes
  • Plug in iPod
  • Install iPod with iTunes
  • Wait
  • Repeat

This turns a once awesome iPod into a little white box that takes 30 MINUTES TO UPDATE!!! But it's not a big deal, I have tons of extra time, right? I finally gave in and went through this whole ordeal for the second time today. It takes a long time, but I had about 150 songs that weren't in my iPod yet that I really wanted to listen to. I gave in. God Bless Apple.

hey, at least you have an iPod. mine was *sniff* taken back. okay, so it wasn't really mine, but I loved it! I love iPods. that sounds like a lot to go through just to listen to music. do you have to do it every single time you update it, or just that time?

Every
single
time...
That's why I had to write about it.
Tom

Yeah, I totally have to do that with my ipod. it totally sucks, because it takes a lot of time. it's totally worth it to listen to music though. have fun with your ipod!

OMG I WISH I HAD AN IPOD! lol, yeah right. Jeff's blog turned me off to the little guys when he talked about how crappy his was. He didn't pay for it (he won it free) so he didn't feel an obligation to like it. I was already turned off to the little things, and now I find this on Nick's blog? People already think I look gay; the last thing I need is to be walking around with a little white box that resmebles a girl's makeup holder ^_^ I'll stick to my minidisc player

Umm are you using wordpress? or did you make this site yourself
Jeff

It's all me dude.
Tom

I hate iPods, that's why I got an iRiver. It's sooooo much better... plus it plays oggs (on default) and AVIs (with the korean firmware) and it's black!
Louis C.

Told you, that's EXACTLY what you get for using an apple product.
Lukas

Blog Tom! Blog! It's been like, a month! I need to hear about your life to survive! lol.
Jeffie

Tom needs a better "about me" section. "my name is Tom" just doesn't cut it.
Jai

I agree, but Tom is lazy, so this might not happen for a while.
